G + M – Inspiration wedding in marble quarries

“The white marble quarries of the Apuan Alps”

A recent wedding-themed Bulgari ad has brought to light the theme of marble quarries as a location for events.

Last summer, we brought our dreams to life by creating a wedding in the quarries ourselves. The service was quite successful, as it ended up on the famous blog Ruffled.

Why do the white marble quarries of the Apuan Alps inspire creatives so much? Probably because of the unique dimension of sky and white stone, and the dreamlike atmosphere that permeates these scenarios.

When I came up with the idea, I asked Sabrina of Diva and Events to help me bring this set to life, and the first thing I did was accompany her on a site visit. Here’s her idea of the quarries as a setting:

“I feel suspended, in an almost surreal scenario, out of time…a bubble between sky and earth surrounded everywhere by a very fine and volatile white powder…could it be the material dreams are made of” this is how the wedding planner, Sabrina Ramazzotti, describes this magical location.

For this set, we decided to take a risk and create a series of unprecedented materials for a wedding, mixing plexiglass, steel, and glass.

But photography is a dream, and we wanted to take a bit of a risk by creating an imaginary scene with the Pope celebrating mass with our newlyweds on a marble altar in the heart of the quarries.

It’s a vision that tells the dream of many in the world of marble, to see their work blessed by the Holy Father.

The shoot was entirely done on film.
