Wedding Casale de’ Pasquinelli – Lucca

Casale de Pasquinelli, a romantic wedding for Lil and Ruudi.

Set atop the lush hills of Lucca, surrounded by olive groves and verdant grape vines, Lil and Ruudi said “I do”. There wedding was a blending of beloved traditions they brought from their home of Estonia mixed with their love and appreciation of Italian food, wine and craftsmanship.

The day began early with a dip in the panoramic pool, followed by a leisurely breakfast at the farmhouse. Lil prepared for the big day in a separate villa found on the same grounds, in the cheerful company of her sister, girlfriends and mother. While Ruudi prepared in the stone cottage just a stone throw’s away from Lil’s villa.

In their intimate ceremony, they chose to perform the hand fasting ritual, which ends with blessings given to the couple by the people that are important in their lives. A beautiful hand stitched strip of lace is placed over the joined hands of the couple as they receive the blessing. Incredibly heartfelt and personal, this was a special moment for the entire wedding party.

Directly after the ceremony, Lil and Ruudi deftly incorporated the Estonian tradition of sending away the brides maiden name, with an original touch. Lil was a women’s golf champ in Estonia, and so they penciled the letters of her maiden name, one per golf ball, onto the balls, and then sent away each letter with a swing of the club. Members of her family and golf pals assisted in this original interpretation of an old tradition and everyone had a good laugh. It turns out, swinging a gold club in high heels in not so easy.

They enjoyed cocktails, including beautiful, personalized magnums of Ca del Bosco, under a charming olive grove accompanied by a live Italian jazz band. The breeze was cool, the sky was blue and the yummy passed trays of Lil and Ruudi’s favorite Italian finger foods were a big hit with the guests. Just before coming to table they played a favorite Estonian quiz game that tests the couple about just how well they know each other. Friends and family pitched in with comical questions and challenges and Lil and Ruudi were good sports to the very end.

Just as the bright October sky turned to warmer shades of orange and crimson, the party adjourned to table under a crystal tent with romantic chandelier lighting to frame a classic, jaw dropping Tuscan view. Each place setting was adorned with elements made in the different corners of Tuscany. Terracotta floral vases from Montelupo, wooden candle holders from the woods of the Garfagnana and marble chargers sourced from the mountaintops of Carrara made for a truly one of a kind, Tuscan table setting.

The meal was catered by a local, boutique caterer, featuring delicious fresh pasta topped with a generous dose of freshly shaved San Miniato black truffles and paired with a delicate Lunae white wine. The couple shared a sweet kiss under a starry sky, as they cut through the flaky layers of their buttery mille feuille wild berry cake. It was time to dance and celebrate. The entire group, old and young alike, gayly entered the panoramic gazebo where a live band got the party started. As the merriment of the occasion permeated the space, the brightest, biggest smiles could be seen lightly perched upon the sweet faces of the bride and groom. All was well; a once in a lifetime moment was had surrounded by family and friends sharing good food, beautiful wine and the perfect setting. Lil and Ruudi had their Dolce Vita wedding, and it was indeed, ever so sweet.
